The eighth generation Passat (B8) was first introduced at the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam, Germany on the July 3, 2014. For this model Volkswagen is aiming to raise the overall level of the Passat to be on the same par as the Audi A4, the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This has been established by various twinks here and there, such as the adoption of better interior materials to make the car more luxurious, various introduction of driving assists to aid the driver in different road situations and the improvement of the driving quality of the vehicle.
There is a small reduction in length from the previous model the seventh generation Passat to the now current eighth generation, however interior space has increased slightly as the front wheels has been pushed farther upfront.
With the usage of lightweight vacuum-forced steel the the weight of the car has been reduced by 73 kg (160.9) in total.
